10,000 ton magnesium-based hydrides manufacturing plant under construction in China
(Jiangsu, China) HyFun, a hydrogen storage and transportation solution innovator headquartered in Shanghai, announced it began construction of 10,000 magnesium-based hydrides production plant in Yixing, Jiangsu province. The plant is set to be the first industrial scale solid-state hydrogen storage material production line in China.
HyFun was established in 2016 and has been engaged in the research and innovation of solid-state hydrogen storage material since 2019. Through partnership with Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s Center of Hydrogen Science, the company has achieved significant progresses.
On July 5th, HyFun released the first generation ton-level magnesium-based solid-state hydrogen storage and transportation vehicle (MH-001T) which uses magnesium alloy as the medium to store and transport hydrogen through the reversible reaction of magnesium and hydrogen. This hydrogen storage vehicle has about three times capacity of high-pressure gaseous hydrogen storage, and the storage state is at normal temperature and pressure. It can realize safe, efficient and economical hydrogen storage and transportation.

The vehicle contains 12 hydrogen storage containers, each of which is filled with high-capacity magnesium alloy hydrogen storage materials.
In addition, the selective adsorption of hydrogen by magnesium alloy can also be used to purify hydrogen. The released hydrogen can reach the standard of high-purity hydrogen or even ultra-pure hydrogen.
HyFun now has a 1,000 ton production capacity of magnesium alloy in Jiangsu province, expanding 10-fold of capacity may signal that the company expects rapid growth of magnesium-based hydrogen storage material application in China.
