1037 km-China’s longest pure hydrogen pipeline will start construction soon

(Tangshan, Hebei province) Tangshan Haitai New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (“Haitai Solar”), the developer of Zhangjiakou-Tangshan hydrogen pipeline, announced the project is in the stage of geological investigation and will begin construction soon. The pipeline is designed to be 1037.82 km long and expected to be commercially operational by the end of 2026.

The pipeline starts at Kangbao hydrogen production plant in Zhangjiakou, while ends at Caofeidian district in Tangshan city, connecting over 20 cities, according to the developer. The pipeline, which is designed to have a diameter of 813 mm and operate at pressure of 7.2 MPa, has a capacity of 1.55 million ton hydrogen per annum, one of the largest globally.

By this pure hydrogen pipeline project, we could see clearly China’s ambition and resolution to decarbonize its iron and steel industry with hydrogen metallurgy.
