Mingyang collaborating with ACWA Power to develop green hydrogen market in Middle East
(Guangdong, China) On September 11th, Mingyang Smart Energy and ACWA Power signed an initial agreement to bolster collaboration in areas of green hydrogen and ammonia, and renewable energy.
The collaboration will focus on advancing green hydrogen and ammonia projects, contributing significantly to global renewable energy and smart energy development. Mingyang aims to provide full solutions and value-added services for ACWA Power's projects, creating a global and strategic partnership that leverages resources and expertise from both companies.
“I am delighted to be here today to discuss the growing economic cooperation between Saudi Arabia and China. ACWA Power has been at the forefront of this cooperation, and we are excited to continue working with our Chinese partners to build a more sustainable future. Signing the two MoUs will strengthen our collaboration in green hydrogen and ammonia, global renewable energies, and integrated smart energies”, said Mohammad Abunayyan, Chairman of ACWA Power.
Acwa Power, backed by the Public Investment Fund, operates in 12 countries across the Middle East, Africa, Central Asia and South-East Asia.
The company's portfolio comprises 77 projects in operation, advanced development or under construction with an investment value of $78.2 billion and the capacity 50.4 GW of power and manage 6.8 million cubic metres of desalinated water daily.
The company, which is developing a $5 billion green hydrogen-based ammonia production plant in Saudi Arabia’s smart city Neom, plans to “replicate” the project elsewhere.
The green hydrogen project at Neom will use 4GW of renewable power from solar, wind and storage to produce 650 tonnes a day of hydrogen from electrolysis.
The project, expected to come on stream in 2025, will produce about 1.2 million tonnes of green ammonia a year, making it the largest green hydrogen project globally.
ACWA Power has a history of fruitful collaborations with Chinese companies such as installing the largest wind turbine in Central Asia with China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC); awarding the EPC contract for Rabigh 4 desalination project with a consortium of Power China.
Mingyang Smart Energy is a world-renowned wind turbine manufacturer, in term of installed power of turbine, Mingyang is the 3rd largest producer in China, following Envision and Goldwind.
As a trend to integrate green hydrogen production capacity with wind power project is prevailing, Mingyang determined to enter hydrogen equipment manufacturing business in 2022. The company has released its 2000m3/hr ALK electrolyser in Oct 2022 and will develop its own PEM electrolysers. By collaborating with ACWA Power, Mingyang could have opportunities to enter very promising green hydrogen market in Middle East region.
