Sinopec released electrode performance indicators and test requirements for ALK electrolysers
Sinopec is one of the largest green hydrogen project developers in China and globally. With substantial demand for electrolysers, it has significant impacts on China’s domestic electrolysis equipment market.
On June 16, Sinopec released a document "Alkaline Electrolyser Electrode Performance Indicators and Test Requirements (Draft version)" and announced the specific requirements listed in the documents may be used for the bidding of subsequent projects.
The electrode is the core component of the alkaline water electrolyser, and its technical performance could determine the major performance indicators of the electrolyser, especially reliability and energy efficiency.
In the document, Sinopec also claims that test reports of the third-party witness or certification (BV, DEKRA, TUV, CQC, SGS or a third party with CNAS or CMA qualification) are required, and the third-party certification institutes shall take measures to ensure that the electrode sample is not replaced during the test and that the test data is true and reliable.
With the booming of China’s green hydrogen and green fuel industry, participants of electrolysers and core components like electrode are also growing rapidly. In such an emerging market, there is a possibility that the nameplate specifications of electrolysers may differ from real performances due to the reliability and performance of electrode. Sinopec’s requirements for electrode, not only set a benchmark for subsequent procurements, may also have positive impacts on China’s whole ALK electrolysis equipment market as well.
