This facility will have capability to produce essential parts of ALK electrolyser, assembly and test electrolysers. The initial capacity would be 200 units, or 1.5GW per annum, according to the company’s announcement. The plant is expected to be fully operational by June 2024, making Trina to be a major player in green hydrogen ecosystem.
Trina Hydrogen released its new 1000Nm3/hr ALK electrolyser by the end of 2022. Seemed like a newcomer, Trina Hydrogen is regarded as a highly competitive player of this sector-the owner of this company hold another prestigious company, Trina Solar. Founded in 1997, Trina Solar Co., Ltd. is mainly engaged in the research and development, production and sales of PV modules. The company shipped 43GW solar modules in 2022, ranked No.3 globally, after Longi and Jinko Solar.
There is a trend that China’s PV producers flocking into electrolyser sector recently. Longi Hydrogen, established in March 2021, has built 1.5GW electrolyser manufacturing capacity and plans to expand to 5GW in three year. Sungrow Power, a global leader of PV inverter, entered electrolyser sector in 2022. Sungrow began construction its 1.5GW electrolyser production facility which will double its capacity to 3GW on Nov 28th, the same day as Trina Hydrogen.

Prior to 2021, China’s domestic electrolyser market is tightly controlled by 3 companies with long track record in this sector: Peric Hydrogen, Cockerill Jingli, and Tianjing Mainland Hydrohgen Equipment. However, green hydrogen emerges as a cornerstone of energy transition after 2020, many Chinese companies are rushing into electrolyser sector, including some the most competitive players in solar industry. The China’s domestic electrolyser market is also changing dramatically.
According to latest industry survey, Peric Hydrogen, Longi, and Sungrow ranked No. 1 to 3 in term of market share as of November 2023 this year with top 3 hold 70% of China’s domestic market share. We notice that all the major players are expanding their capacity rapidly, that means competition will inevitably intensify in 2024 and beyond in China’s domestic market. Many Chinese electrolyser producers have to explore international green hydrogen market for their huge manufacturing capacity.
